Full Review

The Thule Subterra 2 PowerShuttle Small, Thule’s latest addition in their series of organizers, is designed to protect and organize all your daily essentials. It offers a fantastic amount of storage for chargers, cords, small electronics, pens, and more, all in a compact form. This organizer comes in three sizes—small, medium, and large. The small version we have here, though compact, provides an ample amount of organization. It provides a streamlined approach to electronics and daily essentials. Its turtle-like shape and minimal aesthetic work very well as a tech organizer when thrown into a bag, and it feels very durable.

External Components

The Thule Subterra 2 PowerShuttle Small has a durable nylon and polyester exterior featuring a single YKK zipper to protect your gear from inclement weather. Its turtle-like shape combines with the smooth exterior to add to its unique design. While not completely “weatherproof,” we feel pretty certain that the construction and build quality will keep the items inside safe and protected. The zipper operates super smoothly, even around corners, but can be a bit loud. The branding is minimal, with Thule’s logo displayed in black on the front. All the storage and organization are inside the organizer, with no exterior pockets. We really like its flexibility, as it can flatten or expand a decent amount depending on the gear inside.

We’re testing the Black version, which features a gray interior with a unique square pattern that provides visibility and contrast for gear inside, making it easy to find what we need. The organizer opens in a clamshell style and lays flat, providing a comprehensive overview of everything inside, which is great for traveling or commuting, as we have no issue seeing all of our electronics and gear while at a desk, a coffee shop, or even a nightstand. Throughout our testing, this size worked perfectly in helping organize and keep track of all the cables, battery banks, and wall chargers on a nightstand.

The Thule Subterra 2 PowerShuttle Small’s compact form offers ample storage and organization for small electronics. It’s perfect for slipping into a bag or attaching to luggage with a small loop at the top. Its minimalistic aesthetic ensures it doesn’t stand out or attract too much attention. What we particularly appreciate about this organizer is its flexibility, which continuously adapts to suit our needs.

Inside The Pouch

The Thule Subterra 2 PowerShuttle Small has all of its organization and functionality located inside, with no external pockets or compartments. The only external feature is a loop you can use to attach it to other gear. This feature could be helpful for minimalist packers as it allows for added flexibility and storage capacity. The interior features a sleek gray lining, which, when viewed closely, has a unique square pattern.

The organization on the right side of the PowerShuttle includes a large slip pocket that takes up the entirety of the organizer. Although it doesn’t stretch, it has enough room for items such as a battery bank, a passport, or even a small hard drive. In front of this slip pocket are three elastic loops—two medium and one small—that are ideal for holding cords or a stylus. These loops work perfectly, providing just the right amount of stretch to keep items secure.

On the left, the organization includes two stretchy mesh slip pockets perfect for small headphones, such as AirPods or Samsung Beats. Behind these pockets, there’s a zippered pocket that spans the entire size of the organizer, complete with a plastic key clip inside for a little extra security. This expansive pocket is ideal for items like a passport, cash, or a small notebook. Above this is an additional loop for storing a stylus or pen.

It is perfect for travel as it helps organize smaller items that can get lost at the bottom of a bag, such as charging cords, styluses, battery banks, and wall chargers. It can also hold keys and even doubles as a wallet for storing a passport or extra cash. It also works well as a desk caddy, keeping daily essentials handy in the office or a coffee shop. USB drives, small headphones, an Apple Pencil, a compact pen, a Field Notes journal, charging cables, and a wall charger can all fit inside easily, making setup effortless.

Compared to the Bellroy Tech Kit Compact, the Thule Subterra 2 PowerShuttle Small offers similar organization capabilities but in a somewhat smaller and more compact form. It’s slightly less rigid than the Bellroy Teck Kit’s angular construction yet still provides comparable rugged exterior protection. Its unique, modular design resembles a turtle shell, which is an apt descriptor of its appearance, tactile feel, and the protective function it serves, minus the adorable reptile inside.

Thule Subterra 2 PowerShuttle Small | Similar organization and capacity but in a smaller and more compact form factor.

Another comparable product is the Aer Pro Kit, which provides slightly more storage but similar organization. The Aer Pro Kit has the added feature of standing upright when fully packed, offering a true desk caddy experience. So, the choice between the two comes down to personal preference—whether you prefer your organizer to lie flat or stand upright. Both options offer a similar exterior that provides excellent protection for the gear inside while also serving as a handy organizer for all your small items. The Thule Subterra 2 PowerShuttle Small delivers a more streamlined approach, emphasizing the essentials.

Thule Subterra 2 PowerShuttle Small Comparison 2
Thule Subterra 2 PowerShuttle Small | Ultimately boils down to the user’s preference in terms of standing up desk caddy or lay flat.

The Thule Subterra 2 PowerShuttle Small’s compact design and ample organization make it a joy to use, especially when working on the go. Using the built-in organization to manage battery banks, wall chargers, and external hard drives makes it the perfect companion to throw in a bag. With its durable external materials, we have no concern that this will keep things neat and organized. Its flexibility also makes it perfect for traveling. The included cord management, key leash, and slip pockets are ideal for a small pair of headphones, keys, a passport, and other small travel essentials you might want to keep close at hand.
